The Endless Caravan
“The Roma of Northern Syria”
The Endless Caravan is a visual and emotional journey exploring the daily life and cultural identity of the Roma community in northeastern Syria. Through vibrant personal stories, the film delves into the details of their existence on the margins of society, documenting their struggle for survival and recognition, while offering a human narrative that challenges stereotypes and prejudices.
The film was shot in three distinct regions: the city of al-Hasakah, the town of al-Darbasiyah, and the city of Qamishli. The narrative is built around intimate encounters with Roma individuals, some of whom still live in tents on the outskirts of the cities, while others have settled in residential neighborhoods. The film highlights their complex reality and the diversity of their livelihoods, which range from traditional occupations such as dental repairs and fishing to controversial practices like "cock fighting" in Qamishli, which is socially linked to this marginalized group.
